Emcon Services Inc. currently has an opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to join our team as Operations Manager, supporting our North Cariboo Service Area 18 Division. Emcon Services Inc. is proudly a Canadian based company with over 30 years of success as an interprovincial Road and Bridge Maintenance Contractor providing maintenance services throughout British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario. At the heart of Service Area 18 is the City of Quesnel along with the smaller surrounding communities of Hixon, Nazko, Wells, Barkerville, McLeese Lake and Kersley. Quesnel is located at the confluence of the Fraser and Quesnel Rivers with a median temperature of +20oC throughout the summer months and -10oC during winter. The diverse climate provides for many exciting activities for the outdoor enthusiast including hiking, kayaking and mountain biking throughout the summer months, hunting and fishing over the shoulder seasons and both cross country and downhill skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling during winter. For the indoor enthusiast, Quesnel includes great offerings through the museum, theater, local cafés, restaurants and eateries and the Quesnel Arts and Recreation Center where families can enjoy a variety of activities.

Reporting to the Division Manager, the Operations Manager is responsible for:
• Administration of the Highways Maintenance Agreement between Emcon and the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MoTI).
• Overall planning and application of seasonal maintenance programs through supervisory staff within the area; in compliance to high quality standards, assigned seasonal budgets, and requirements of the highway specifications.
• Communicating with staff at all levels of the company with a critical key focus on team building, promoting positive culture, benchmarking and conveying successes along with the identification and dissemination of methods to continually improve our operations.
• Communicating with stakeholders including Ministry of Transportation staff, emergency responders and road user groups with a key emphasis on the recognition and implementation of win-win concepts that provide benefits to all parties.

The successful candidate must have:
• A thorough understanding of Ministry of Transportation specifications;
• A cursory understanding of quality assurance programs and the application of the ISO Principles;
• Proven interpersonal and leadership skills;
• Understanding of labour agreements, employment and Health and Safety legislation;
• Excellent communication and public relation, organizational and decision-making skills;
• Proficient computer knowledge and ability to navigate industry programs; and the Explorer software would be a definite asset.
• Prior experience working within a union environment is an asset.
Preference will be given to candidates who:
• Can demonstrate a minimum of 5 years employment in a management position within the road maintenance or road construction industry.
This is a non-union, salaried, management position. The wage is $90,000 to $100,000 annually. Wage and benefits will be based on the experience of the successful candidate.
