Emcon Services Inc. currently has an opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Cost
Accountant and Inventory Manager.
The Cost Accountant/Inventory Manager will support our nationwide operations and based out of the
corporate office in Merritt, BC. Located in the heart of the Nicola Valley, Merritt has a moderate climate with
long hours of sunshine and a central location to larger city shopping centers, wineries, and outdoor recreation
in the Thompson Okanagan region. This role is responsible for performing core accounting functions,
supporting job cost analysis, and managing inventory accounting processes. The successful candidate must be
willing to relocate to Merritt and work on-site.
Duties:
Reporting to the VP, Finance, the Cost Accountant/Inventory Manager will work with employees at multiple
organizational levels to:
ï‚· Prepare & analyze weekly program costs in BC Divisions
ï‚· Monthly & quarterly costing to VP Operations and Divisional managers in BC
ï‚· Preparation of business forecasting & budgets
ï‚· Analyze accounting/costing results
ï‚· Monitor variances & identify trends make recommendations after discussion with Operations staff
ï‚· Recommending actions to the Senior Accountant and/or VP Finance
ï‚· Prepare and maintain financial records in accordance with accounting standards
ï‚· Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes
ï‚· Prepare journal entries, accruals, and account analyses
ï‚· Support audits and respond to accounting inquiries
ï‚· Analysis & development of accounting/costing processes.
The position is also responsible for the control, review, and analyze inventory and responsible for the ongoing
development, documentation and implementation of inventory control procedures and records for the
company.
Additionally, be responsible for overseeing other aspects of inventory management, including:
ï‚· Accuracy of transfers
ï‚· Adjustments to a physical inventory
ï‚· Coordinating seasonal inventory counts
ï‚· Proposing strategies to reduce costs and improve procedures of supply chain logistics
ï‚· RFQ for bulk purchasing
ï‚· Maintaining the supply chain management process across the company
ï‚· Developing methods and tools to improve inventory controls
ï‚· Identify and resolve inventory discrepancies.
Required Qualifications:
 Completed bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related Business degree
 Minimum of 1–2 years of relevant accounting experiences or financial analysis
ï‚· Experience with Eclipse ERP accounting software will be considered an asset
ï‚· Experience in Highway maintenance will be an asset
ï‚· Experience with cost accounting and inventory management is a strong asset
ï‚· Supervisory and management skills Training
ï‚· Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently
ï‚· Advanced knowledge of Excel and MS Office Suites
ï‚· Above-average analytical and organizational skills are needed for the completion of reports and
documentation
ï‚· Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
 Valid BC Driver’s License (Class 5) and a positive driving record.
Preference will be given to candidates who:
ï‚· Can demonstrate experience with cost analysis and inventory management
ï‚· Maintain accuracy and accountability
ï‚· Has strong problem-solving skills and can contribute to data analysis and reconciliations at the
company level
ï‚· Can manage multiple tasks simultaneously, set priorities and meet tight deadlines.
The Cost Accountant/Inventory Manager is a non-union, salaried management position, starting wage range
$60,000 to $62,000 annually. Compensation and benefits will be based on the experience of the successful
candidate.
