JOURNEYMAN RED SEAL BRIDGEWORKER
SA01 – Malahat (Ark Rd)
In accordance with Article 12, applications are now being accepted for the position of Journeyman Red Seal Bridgeworker – Malahat (Ark Rd). This position, is included in the Bargaining Unit, and reports to the Bridge Superintendent or their designate.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the general direction of the Bridge Superintendent, or designate, to perform all aspects of a Journeyman Bridgework. These include but are not limited to:

Possess the aptitude to learn and develop the skills and abilities of the Bridgework/Pile drive/Carpentry trade, through supervised vocational and on-the-job instruction and practice,
➢
Will demonstrate skills in the safe operation of hand and power tools, to include (but not limited to) temporary generators, ladders,
➢
Know and adhere to all safety practices and procedures.
➢
Report labour details, material usage/distribution and any related costing information via timecards, or any other means designated by the Employer
➢
Required to work outdoors in all types of weather, and nighttime work as required.
➢
Travel as required during the course of duties
➢
Maintain up to date knowledge of the trade
➢
Operate equipment on the Road Crew as required, including winter shift assignments.
➢
Other related duties.
QUALIFICTIONS
➢
Preferably Grade 12 education
➢
Advanced understanding of carpentry fundamentals in commercial and industrial settings,
➢
Completion of a related apprenticeship course of knowledge/skills in the field of carpentry or construction preferable – valid Certificate of Qualification as issued by the Trade Authority.
➢
Valid Class 3 driver’s license – preference will be given to candidate who possesses a valid Class 1 license
➢
The ability to work with other employees and to take specific direction and instructions from other qualified employees they are assigned to work with and not be afraid of heights,
➢
Physically fit and able to perform heavy physical labour,
➢
Good knowledge of safety regulations, policies and procedures,
➢
Strong written and communication skills,
➢
Positive safety record.
