Job Title: Plant Trainee – Nicola Lake Shore Water Utilities
Location: Merritt, BC

About the Role:
We are seeking a motivated and reliable Plant Trainee to join our Nicola Lake Shore Water Utilities,
Quilchena on the lake, Douglas Lake, Sagebrush Golf Course. This position involves hands-on
operation and maintenance of water and sewer treatment systems to ensure compliance with
health, safety, and environmental standards and monitoring systems on all the sites as mentioned
above.
Key Responsibilities:
• Maintain and operate sewer and water treatment plants at Nicola Lakeshore Estates
• Perform daily testing to meet Interior Health Authority (IHA) & Ministry of Environment
(MOE) requirements, including chlorine, pH, and water flow monitoring at all the sites noted
above.
• Operate water treatment plant functions ensuring arsenic removal and pH level adjustments
meet design.
• Maintain accurate checklists, logs, and reports for regulatory submissions.
• Conduct preventative maintenance and recommend improvements on various sites.
• Maintain and repair grinder pumps, pressure control units, and control panels( as per
training provided)
• Provide ongoing monitoring notes to IHA via office email.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
Mandatory Qualifications:
• EOCP Certification – Small Water System/Small Wastewater System or in the process of
obtaining the certification.
• Knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes
• Ability to perform daily operational and testing requirements independently
• Strong problem-solving and preventative maintenance skills
• Basic mechanical and electrical aptitude
• Proficiency with data logging and reporting
• Valid Class 5 drivers license with clean drivers abstract.
Work Schedule & Compensation:
• 5 days per week from Wednesday to Sunday.
• Minimum of 40 hours per week; start/end times may vary based on operational needs
• Wage: $24.00 per hour
